In the mid-1800s the corporation emerged as a legal “person.” Imbued with a “personality” of pure self-interest, the next 100 years saw the corporation’s rise to dominance. The corporation created unprecedented wealth but at what cost? The remorseless rationale of “externalities” is responsible for countless cases of illness, death, poverty, pollution, exploitation and lies. This documentary examines the history of the corporation and the role it plays in society and our everyday lives.

This is a romantic comedy set in Paris about a family that goes there because of business, and two young people who are engaged to be married in the fall have experiences there that change their lives. It’s about a young man’s great love for a city, Paris, and the illusion people have that a life different from theirs would be much better.
In this movie, Allen is trying to show us a little about his passion for Paris of the 20’s. Reminds me the book “A Moveable Feast”- Ernest Hemingway, remembering us why Paris is a city so charming and the place where we find inspiration and love.
Just a genius like Woody Allen could do this movie, funny, simple, charming and with a “magnifique” soundtrack.
Matt Damon stars in this action thriller about a man who glimpses the future Fate has planned for him – and chooses to fight for his own destiny. Battling the powerful Adjustment Bureau across, under and through the streets of New York, he risks his destined greatness to be with the only woman he’s ever loved (Emily Blunt). Based on a story by the legendary Philip K. Dick, The Adjustment Bureau is entertaining and thought-provoking.

João Teixeira de Faria – John of God – is acknowledged to be one of the most powerful trans-medium spiritual healers in the world. He serves as a channel for over 30 light-spirit entities who incorporate his physical body to heal people who come to the Casa de Dom Inácio de Loyola centre in Abadiânia, Brazil. Healing captures some of their remarkable stories on film and explores inexplicable but well-documented instances of miraculous intervention that have taken place here.
But what is the story behind the charismatic medium who works with spirit entities in miraculous healings, defying any conventional explanation? How did an obscure, virtually illiterate man living in the centre of Brazil become the hope and refuge of so many seeking health and guidance?
Born into a poor family, João’s very basic education was cut short due to his rebellious nature as a child. At 16 he left home to become an apprentice tailor, but soon found himself unemployed, penniless and starving. On the verge of despair, he was granted a vision of Saint Rita of Cassia, who directed him to a nearby Spiritist centre. Arriving there, he discovered that his coming was expected, but in his weakened state lost consciousness. Upon awakening several hours later, João was amazed to be told that he had been in a mediumistic trance, allowing the spirit of King Solomon to carry out healing through his physical body.
From that day his path was clear. Surrendering himself to God and opening his mind to the miraculous transformation that had taken place, João became a conduit for a host of benevolent ‘entities’ devoted to helping humanity.
Guided by the spirit of the great Spanish theologian St. Ignatius de Loyola, also known as Dom Inacio or St. Ignacio, João established his healing centre in the village of Abadiânia, chosen for its unique location above a powerful geological crystal formation. So remarkable has been the work carried out here that over the years the centre has attracted millions of people from all over the world. Although thousands might arrive in a single day, no-one, believer or sceptic, is ever turned away. João has dedicated his life to this service, and does not ask for payment for the healing.
João is now known throughout the world as John of God (João de Deus), a title given to him by those who recognize his status as a person touched by a higher power. He himself denies that he has any healing abilities, stating that God alone can heal and that the light entities work through him to cure the cause of people’s afflictions. When João’s body is incorporated he maintains that he has no knowledge or recollection of the work that is being performed through him during the sessions.
Essentially he remains an uncomplicated person, still defined by his humble origins but driven by a sense of mission. After more than five decades of unflinching service and countless successful outcomes, few would doubt that João Teixeira de Faria truly deserves to be called John of God.
As the city’s major protective service, the Toronto Police have perpetuated the myth and stereotype of ‘the slut’, and in doing so have failed us. With sexual assault already a significantly under-reported crime, survivors have now been given even less of a reason to go to the Police, for fear that they could be blamed. Being assaulted isn’t about what you wear; it’s not even about sex; but using a pejorative term to rationalize inexcusable behaviour creates an environment in which it’s okay to blame the victim.
Historically, the term ‘slut’ has carried a predominantly negative connotation. Aimed at those who are sexually promiscuous, be it for work or pleasure, it has primarily been women who have suffered under the burden of this label. And whether dished out as a serious indictment of one’s character or merely as a flippant insult, the intent behind the word is always to wound, so we’re taking it back. “Slut” is being re-appropriated.
We are tired of being oppressed by slut-shaming; of being judged by our sexuality and feeling unsafe as a result. Being in charge of our sexual lives should not mean that we are opening ourselves to an expectation of violence, regardless if we participate in sex for pleasure or work. No one should equate enjoying sex with attracting sexual assault.
We are a movement demanding that our voices be heard. We are here to call foul on our Police Force and demand change. We want Toronto Police Services to take serious steps to regain our trust. We want to feel that we will be respected and protected should we ever need them, but more importantly be certain that those charged with our safety have a true understanding of what it is to be a survivor of sexual assault — slut or otherwise.
We are tired of speeches filled with lip service and the apologies that accompany them. What we want is meaningful dialogue and we are doing something about it: WE ARE COMING TOGETHER. Not only as women, but as people from all gender expressions and orientations, all walks of life, levels of employment and education, all races, ages, abilities, and backgrounds, from all points of this city and elsewhere.
We are asking you to join us for SlutWalk, to make a unified statement about sexual assault and victims’ rights and to demand respect for all. Whether a fellow slut or simply an ally, you don’t have to wear your sexual proclivities on your sleeve, we just ask that you come. Any gender-identification, any age. Singles, couples, parents, sisters, brothers, children, friends. Come walk or roll or strut or holler or stomp with us. This has become a global movement, with Satellites happening all over the world. “

[EN] The São Paulo group Garotas Suecas ( Swedish Girls), formed in 2005, is part of the new bands in the indie scene in Brazil.
If you think that “Garotas Suecas” are swedish and girls, there are not. They, actually, are: she (Irina, the only girl, keyboards), & they (Sessa, guitar; Nico, drums; Guilherme, voice; Tommy, guitar; Perdido, below).
Instead of using the rock as their main language, and from there, start sewing references – from to samba to baião, from rock to Eastern Europen waltz- the sexet captures the soul music, kunk and psychedelic rock, and if that build two energetic discs; contagious.
If ask for them, why the name “Garotas Suecas”, the answer is “It just came.”
Gotan Project is a musical group based in Paris, consisting of musicians Philippe Cohen Solal (French), Eduardo Makaroff (Argentine), and Christoph H. Müller (Swiss, former member of Touch El Arab).
“… music blares from the radio that quite comfortably merges rhythms from Serbia and Colombia, the voice of Oumou Sangaré and the melodic thump of Maori reggae. But when it comes the new “world music” ie. the merging of DJ culture with music from the worldwide underground – Gotan Project were the first to successfully bring the traditional and the folkloric into the electronic space.”
I would like to say that this is a beautiful movie, but this is actually a beautiful and true story. A real example that wars are not a fight between people but between leaders.
This movie is inspired by a true story, which happened during World War I, for Christmas Eve 1914, in many different places of the battlefront.
When war breaks out in the lull of summer 1914, it surprises and pulls millions of men in its wake.
And Christmas arrives, with it’s snow and multitude of family and army presents. But the surprise won’t come from inside the generous parcels which lie in the French, Scottish, and German trenches.
That night, a momentous event will turn the destinies of four characters: an Anglican priest, a French lieutenant, an exceptional tenor and the one he loves, a wonderful soprano and singing partner. During this Christmas Eve, the unthinkable will happen: rifles will be left at the bottom of the trenches to go to see those opposite, shake their hands, exchange a cigarrete and a piece of chocolate, wish them “Merry Christmas!”…
The Barbatuques, a reference group in Body percussion, produces organic music using the body as a musical instrument. Melodies and different rhythms are created using voice effects and exploration of sounds produced by the human body: hand clapping, cracks, beats, hands and feet, all in tune. The result is amazing.
Everyone has a sonorous body and their own musical imaginary. The sound expression through the human body is probably the older way of making music and communicating in different cultures. This “body music” reveals the accents, practices, behavior codes and tradition of each culture, in each part of the world.
In his speech at the association Iraq Veterans Against War, the corporal Mike Prysner tells of his experience in Iraq and explains how he became aware of the true nature of war:
Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 – 1882) was an American lecturer, essayist, and poet, best remembered for leading the Transcendentalist movement of the mid-19th century. He was seen as a champion of individualism and a prescient critic of the countervailing pressures of society, and he disseminated his thought through dozens of published essays and more than 1,500 public lectures across the United States.
Emerson wrote most of his important essays as lectures first, then revised them for print. His first two collections of essays – Essays: First Series and Essays: Second Series, published respectively in 1841 and 1844 – represent the core of his thinking, and include such well-known essays as Self-Reliance, The Over-Soul, Circles, The Poet and Experience. Together with Nature, these essays made the decade from the mid-1830s to the mid-1840s Emerson’s most fertile period.
Emerson wrote on a number of subjects, never espousing fixed philosophical tenets, but developing certain ideas such as individuality, freedom, the ability for man to realize almost anything, and the relationship between the soul and the surrounding world.

The Buena Vista Social Club was a members club in Havana, Cuba that held dances and musical activities, becoming a popular location for musicians to meet and play during the 1940s.
The success sparked a revival of international interest in traditional Cuban music and Latin American music in general. Some of the Cuban performers later released well-received solo albums and recorded collaborations with international stars from different musical genres. The “Buena Vista Social Club” name became an umbrella term to describe these performances and releases, and has been likened to a brand label that encapsulates Cuba’s “musical golden age” between the 1930s and 1950s. The new success was fleeting for the most recognizable artists in the ensemble: Compay Segundo, Rubén González, and Ibrahim Ferrer, who died at the ages of ninety-five, eighty-four, and seventy-eight respectively; Segundo and González in 2003, then Ferrer in 2005.
“In the early 1960′s I had a dream of a type of singing group that I wanted to create. Not just a dream, in the wishful way, but an actual dream while I was asleep. This beautiful dream led to the creation of my group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Now, some forty five plus years later this original dream has led to so many more dreams. We have been awarded Grammy Awards, represented our homeland of South Africa at many prestigious events, including accompanying Nelson Mandela to Norway to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, traveled the world so many times and most importantly, spread a message of Peace, Love and Harmony to millions of people. Robert “Bobby” McFerrin, Jr. (born March 11, 1950) is an American vocalist and conductor. He is best known for his 1988 hit song “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” and he is also a ten-time Grammy Award winner.
As a vocalist, McFerrin often switches rapidly between normal and falsetto registers to create polyphonic effects, performing both the main melody and the accompanying parts of songs. He makes use of percussive effects created both with his mouth and by tapping on his chest. McFerrin is also capable of multiphonic singing; as observed in his song “Drive” from the 2005 DVD Live in Montreal.
A notable document of McFerrin’s approach to singing is his 1984 album The Voice, the first solo vocal jazz album recorded with no accompaniment or overdubbing.

Talvez no olhar.
